2007 Chevy Silverado raffle
Miss California Draws The Winning Ticket
The electricity was in the air at Rancho Motors in Victorville as Miss California, Raquel Beezley reached into a tub of over 35,000 raffle tickets, and drew out the lucky ticket for a new Chevy Silverado.
Ron Axelrod of Apple Valley was the winner of the new 2007
Chevy Silverado, courtesy of The Don Ferrarese Charitable
Foundation, a High Desert charity offering college scholarships to
local students. Buying 100 tickets from Carpino’s Pizza in
Apple Valley, Axelrod figured he was helping a great cause with
nothing more to come of it. In his pajamas ready for bed, Axelrod received a call from Don Ferrarese, informing him of his early
Christmas present. Twenty minutes later, Miss California handed
the keys to the beautiful truck to Axelrod and his lovely wife.

Recently crowned Miss California, Raquel Beezley graciously offered
to volunteer her time in helping the charity, embracing it’s mission to recognize youth for their charitable service. “It is a wonderful thing when
kids can be recognized for doing
what they love and have passion for”. offered Raquel. When asked
if she was required to commit herself to a minimum amount of
charitable work, Miss California replied “The pageant does not
require me to do anything. I am welcome to offer help wherever
I may see a need. As a native Barstow resident, it offers me a
great deal of pride to help our local charities”.
The Don Ferrarese Charitable Foundation, started just two years
ago to honor the charitable work of retired baseball player Don Ferrarese, has awarded eighteen $4,000 scholarships to high desert
students pursuing their college educations. The scholarships are
awarded based solely upon the students’ charitable service.
“It has been one the most rewarding organizations I have been
associated with, and it offers a tremendous amount of satisfaction in
recognizing the good kids when the focus seems to be on the bad.”
offered Don Ferrarese. “The hardest part of the charity is choosing
only one student from each of the local high schools, when there are
so many deserving kids doing great things to make this a better world.
It offers me a lot of hope for our future when you see all of the great
things our kids are doing.” added Ferrarese.
The Foundation will award ten new $4,000 scholarships annually,
one each to a student from each of the Victor Valley High Schools.
