Tyler was honored with the Young Humanitarian of the year by St Mary’s Charitable Foundation for his vast work with patients utilizing Pet Therapy. Tyler raised over $15,000 to assist a local Sheriff
Deputy with medical costs, coordinating the fundraising efforts. Tyler is a member of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Explorer program, receiving the SB County Sheriff’s Department Commander award in 2007, 2008 and 2009, donating over 1,600 hours to this program alone. Serving over twenty various charities, from Saluting our American Veterans to reading programs, to feeding the needy, Tyler has contributed over 3,000 hours to Victor Valley charitable causes.
From painting community buildings to building of exhibits at the Big Bear Zoo, Sarah has allowed her passion to serve her community to better many lives. Contributing over 2,300 hours to ten different charities, Sarah says “Volunteering gives everyone the chance to change lives, including their own.
Volunteering grabs hold and reinstates meaning into people’s lives.
Serving thirteen charitable causes, Cecelia has made a significant difference in so many ways, serving our American Veterans, raising money for foster homes, breast cancer research, food drives, Rotary, and organizing blood drives. Cecelia values the friendships she has made through her charitable efforts, saying that it is through these friendships that trust and faith is built leading to a better community. Volunteering over 500 hours, Cecelia’s teachers recognize her greatest strength in her sense of community. A sense of community that allows her to shine in her service to others.
The staff at the Lewis Center describe Kaitlin as “Leading by serving” which transfers to her life outside of school, dedicating herself to the benefit of many charities, such as relay for life, Girls Scouts, Toy Drives, food drives, honoring our American Veterans and civic service through community involvement. Donating over 500 hours of community service, Kaitlin holds leadership position at school as well. Kaitlin says “Volunteering is like tossing on stone into a puddle…it has a ripple effect that will not only change the person, but the entire community”
Simone’s passion for community service is demonstrated daily as she dedicates her passion to many community needs. Symone says “Volunteering has the power to teach a person more about themselves”. Symone dedicates her time to community reading programs, being recognized as an outstanding volunteer at the Lucerne Valley library, while being invested in many school leadership roles. Symone’s teachers praise her for her positive outlook on life and willingness to step up and offer help whenever a need arises. Symone says” The act of Volunteering is a reflection of a person taking change into his own hands”.
“Always willing to serve others, a young woman of exemplary character” is how Emily’s teachers describe her. Contributing her time to fifteen various charitable causes, it is impossible to count Emily’s actual volunteer hours spent making change with building homes in Mexico, raising money for brain walk, church & food and clothing drives. Emily has touched many lives with reading programs, serving as a peer counselor, helping with blood drives as well as assisting in the therapy of autistic children. Emily says” Each and every time a person acts in support of another’s well being, the contagious effects of self-satisfaction and hope for the future continue to grow and change lives.”
Being heralded as “the most compassion and caring student I have ever come across in all my years of teaching”, Jared’s genuine concern for his community is clearly evident. Donating over 1,000 hours to various charitable causes, that we know of, Jared has been the difference in many lives, serving as a volunteer at Desert Valley Hospital for four years and delivering basic necessities to those in need in Mexico. Jared says “ one would think that so few could help so many, but we learn that collectively, as a group, we can pull together our gifts and talents to better benefit those we serve:.
With over 4,000 hours of charitable service to an array of charitable causes, Vanessa has been described by her teachers as “The most extraordinary student throughout the years”, “demonstrated her commitment by serving other on and off campus”, “Vanessa is a valuable citizen who contributes greatly to her community, with the possibilities and potential to do great things”. Vanessa’s charitable service includes caring for the elderly, tutoring peers, raising money for food, clothing and families in need, working with underprivileged youth, delivering basic necessities to Mexico, organizing “Make a Wish” program and helping girls get prom dresses with Cinderella’s closet.
